Gingerbread House Fun Competition 2024

It’s time for our 7th annual gingerbread competition and once again we’ve teamed up with Gingerbread World to bring you delicious, locally made gingerbread house kits. Decorate one of our ready-made kits or bake your own to help to raise vital funds for Safe in Sussex.

Kits will be available to buy online from Tuesday 1st October 2024 – Wednesday 18th December 2024. Please note that entry to any of our competition categories is now closed (see below for more info).

Gingerbread House Kits

You can buy these high quality, locally made kits for fun at home, or as a present for someone – you don’t have to take part in the competition. Kits for your own use are available to buy until 18th December. Click the buttons below to buy your kit.

Cottage Kit

£25 – 76% comes directly to Safe in Sussex so we can help people affected by domestic abuse

This original cottage design, when built, measures approx. 10cm x 10cm x 11.5cm high to fit on a 6”/15cm board. This kit includes pre-baked gingerbread house pieces, a board, instructions, 2x piping bags and 2x small packs of sweet decorations to get you started.

Traditional Triangle House Kit

£30 – 67% comes directly to Safe in Sussex so we can help people affected by domestic abuse.

If you want to go bigger then look no further! This house measures approx.18cm at the base and is 19.5cm high and 15cm deep, fitting on an 8”/20cm board. The kit includes the pre-baked gingerbread house pieces, a board, instructions, 3x piping bags, a mini candy cane and 3x small packs of sweet decorations to get you started.

Gingerbread House Decorating Competition (***Competition entries now closed ***)

Build and decorate one of the Safe in Sussex locally made gingerbread kits and enter either our child (under 16) or adult (16+) categories. Our traditional triangle house is £30 and £25 for our cottage kit, with over two thirds of your entry fee coming directly to Safe in Sussex. Full details of each kit (size and contents) are below.

Bake Your Own Gingerbread Competition (***Competition entries now closed ***)

A chance to get creative and show off your baking talents! This is for all those bakers and aspiring bakers out there! Bake, build, and decorate your own gingerbread creation – it doesn’t have to be a house; it can be anything you fancy making. Entry to either our child (under 16) or adult (16+) categories is by donation (minimum £10).

Businesses, Schools, and Community Groups (***Competition entries now closed ***)

We have a dedicated category for businesses, schools, and community groups where you can enter your organisation in the decorating or bake you own competitions. Entry is £50 per entry for the decorating competition (including large triangle kit), or £40 per entry for bake your own. Multiple entries for each organisation are permitted.

Key Competition Dates and Information

All categories will be judged on imagination, inspiration, and appearance at our in-person events.

It really is great festive fun! 

For the decorating competitions, only Safe in Sussex kits can be entered – just build and decorate, then bring your entry to the event.

For the freestyle competitions, all you need to do is click the button above and choose the freestyle option to book your place (kit not included) and then bring your creation along to be judged.

When: Thursday, 28th November 2024, 5.00pm-6.30pm

Dispatch and delivery of kits: Kits will be dispatched in early November for delivery by Thursday 14th November.

Last order date: Thursday 21st November

Delivery for judging: Entries must be delivered to St Oscar Romero School between 12 noon and 4pm on Thursday 28th November to be displayed for judging.
