- Drop-in sessions and support groups
- One-to-one guidance and advice
- Support for health professionals and community workers
- Education programmes and workshops
Working with professionals
GPs, social workers, housing officers, voluntary groups and health professionals are often the first point of contact for someone experiencing domestic abuse.
We provide domestic abuse training and support for front-line health and social care professionals to help them spot the signs of domestic abuse and how to refer people to our services.
Preventing domestic abuse
Educating young people about healthy relationships is a major way to prevent them becoming future victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse.
A significant part of our time is spent on education programmes in primary and secondary schools to raise awareness of the different forms of domestic abuse and promote healthy relationships.
A bit of history
We started life in 1977 as Worthing Women’s Aid, providing refuge accommodation for women and their children suffering from domestic abuse.
As our work spread to the wider West Sussex area, we wanted to acknowledge this and help more people and attract more potential donors and volunteers.
In November 2013, we re-launched as Safe in Sussex and our services and the help we provide has gone from strength to strength.
Our head office is in Worthing, West Sussex and we have a small, dedicated team who work tirelessly to help those affected by domestic abuse and educate young people on healthy relationships.
Safe In Sussex receives 14% of its funding from the government. The rest is through grants, fundraising events, donations, legacies and corporate sponsorship.
Demand for our services grows every year and finding the money to fund our vital services gets tougher all the time.
We are fortunate to receive some grant funding from Children in Need, the National Lottery and local authority organisations, but we are constantly looking for new ways to attract funding.
