Safe in Sussex’s annual Shocking Shirts & Funky Frocks Day is a great success

Jul 27, 2021 | News

This June Safe in Sussex held their 3rd annual Shocking Shirts and Funky Frocks Day, well month! As it can be difficult to organise everything on one day of the year, they decided to let everyone decide what day in June was best for them to celebrate it! This enabled the charity to raise over £1,250 this year.

Shocking Shirts and Funky Frocks Day is normally held the last Friday of June which coincides with National Cream Tea Day. So, this year there were fabulous outfits and cream teas all through the month. Those participating included Lime Tree Surgery, who have 3 surgeries across West Sussex who celebrated on the 6th July.

Events took place at homes, workplaces and virtually on zoom. Organisations like Nutley’s Kitchen Garden and Carpenter Box held competitions for best dressed employees. St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Shoreham by Sea and The Play Centre in Rustington got involved wearing their most outrageous outfits.  BMI Goring Hall staff wore their outfits whilst enjoying a cream tea and a Zumba class dressed up in tutus and flower garlands!

Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce also supported the event at one of their virtual Chamber Hubs and area managers of My Networking Club took part raising a total of £208 through their meetings on zoom and a Walk, Lunch and Cake event.

Debbie West one of the Corporate & Community Fundraisers for Safe in Sussex said “We have had to change how we fundraise due to Covid-19, making use of virtual opportunities but this year we have been able to go back to a few face-to-face celebrations too.  We are delighted and thankful that our event is growing with many more people taking part and helping raise much needed funds and awareness of the vital work Safe in Sussex does to end domestic abuse in our community.”
